snow day fun in central park!

What fun, a snow day in New York!
Whilst in New York one of my bucket list wishes was fulfilled – seeing snow fall. I’d seen snow before once on a trip to Victoria for a family skiing/snowboarding trip. But never had I seen it fall from the sky. The day I finally did though will not soon be forgotten!
After traipsing the streets for hours Mum and I went into Whole Foods Market to pick up some food for later. The forecast all day had been promising snow but so far it had just been clear and sunny. No clouds, no snow, in sight!
Well, after buying as many Larabars as I could (they are seriously so good) and as I was stepping outside the store I noticed that there were little white dots falling. While I had been inside deciding which Larabar flavours to choose, clouds had rolled across the city’s skies. Bringing with them my wish.
Honestly, I could not stop the big happy grin that plastered itself on my face when I realised it was snowing. I had a little magical moment right then. Standing outside Whole Foods, hands up catching snowflakes while bemused New Yorkians passed by. (The moment was only slightly ruined after many feet and cars made the snow a black sludge in the gutter.)
This seems like such a small thing, snow falling. Almost a non-event (which it probably is for those who actually live where it snows). But for myself it was pretty amazing. Small things like this make me happy.
The next day Mum and I went to Central Park to explore and have some snow day fun. I loved every minute of it!
Note to self, throwing snow over your head may result in a cold neck when the snow falls down the back of your coat and jumper!
As you can tell by the goofy faces I am pulling, throwing snow around was quite fun. Like I mentioned above, small events; things like snow falling, long chats with friends or even simply sitting outside on a sunny day, make me happy. And relaxed. Embracing these little occurrences throughout the day means that I’m also embracing rest. Rest does not come easy therefore I work towards intentionally seeking or creating it during the day. Seems funny to work towards rest but our society is not set up for rest, for slowing down. We’ve all heard that we need to hustle more, work harder, don’t stop until you make it. Those are all good things to do, but not all the time and not so much that you become burnt out. As I have been learning lately, God actually calls us to rest.
What a wonderful thing! Don’t you think that is such a relief to know? We can rest, we should rest. This way you can enjoy your life more because you would have slowed down enough to really notice what is going on around you. At least this is what I have personally found. Perhaps I will have to share more about ways to rest, how it has made a positive change to the way I live my life…..
As always, thank you for reading! Truly, I appreciate everyone who stops by here.
